3、ereneverpublished.Asachild1.ucillewouldsitonhermotherslapandlistenasshereadpoetry.Shelearnedtolovewordsandthepowerofwords.Thatstayedwithherasshegrew.Therewasanotherexperiencethatstayedwithher,too.Once,hermotherwasofferedachancetopublishherpoetry.Butherhusband,SamuelSayles,orderedhernottodoit.Inanger

4、,andsorrow,MissusSaylesthrewherpoemsintoafire.Thatmemoryalsostayedwith1.ucille.Shewouldwriteaboutityearslaterinherpoemcalledfury.IJkemanyof1.ucilleCliftonspoems,furyispersonal.Itdealswithherownexperiences.BARBARAK1.曰N:1.ucilleCliftonbelievedthatitwasimportantforpoetstowriteabouttheirownmemories.Shes

11、sixties.Theyhadsixchildrenoveraseven-yearperiod,fourgirlsandtwoboys.1.ucilleCliftonwrotepoetrywhileraisingherfamily.STEVEEMBER:Shereleasedherfirstbookofpoetryinnineteensixty-nine.ThebookwascalledGoodTimes.TheNewYorkTimescalleditoneofthebestbooksoftheyear.Thepoemsareaboutancestryandfamily,oppressiona
