9、idtheravendecidetoperchonthegoddessofwisdom?Onereasoncouldbe,becauseitwouldleadthenarratortobe1ievethattheravenspokefromwisdom,andwasnotjustrepeatingitsonlystockandstore,“andtosignifythescholarshipofthenarrator.Anotherreasonforusing“Pallasinthepoemwas,accordingtoPoehimself,simplybecauseofthesonorous
10、nessoftheword,Pallas,itself”(Poe,1850).Alessobvioussymbol,mightbetheuseofmidnight”inthefirstverse,and”Decemberinthesecondverse.BothmidnightandDecember,symbolizcanendofsomething,andalsotheanticipationofsomethingnew,achange,tohappen.ThemidnightinDecember,mightverywellbeNewYCar拒eve,adatemostofusconnect
