4、ravedthewavestoopenamaritimeSilkRoadlinkingtheEastandtheWest,beginninganewphaseofclosercommunicationamongpeoples.Spanningthousandsofmilesandyears,theancientsilkrouteswerenotonlyroutesfortradebutalsoroadsforculturalexchanges.Theymadeagreatcontributiontohumanprogress.Inthe1980s,theUnitedNationsandsome
5、countriesbegantoenvisagetheEurasianLandBridge,theSilkRoadInitiative,andotherplans,reflectingacommonwishtoengageincommunicationandcooperation.InMarch2013,PresidentXiJinpingproposedthevisionofaglobalcommunityofsharedfuture;inSeptemberandOctoberthatyear,heraisedtheinitiativesofjoiningwithotherstobuilda
6、SilkRoad氏OnOmiCBeltanda21stCenturyMaritimeSilkRoad(BeltandRoadInitiative,orBRI).TheBeltandRoadInitiativeisacreativedevelopmentthattakesonandcarriesforwardthespiritoftheancientsilkroutes-twoofthegreatachievementsinhumanhistoryandcivilization.ItenrichestheancientspiritwiththeZeitgeistandcultureofthene
7、wera,andprovidesaplatformforbuildingaglobalcommunityofsharedfuture.Sinceitslaunch10yearsago,thankstothecombinedeffortsofallparties,cooperationundertheBRIframeworkhasexpandedbeyondthebordersofChinatobecomeaninternationaleffort.Ithasevolvedfromideasintoactions,fromavisionintoreality,andfromageneralfra
8、meworkintoconcreteprojects.Ithasbeenwelcomedbytheinternationalcommunitybothasapublicgoodandacooperationplatform,andhasachievedsolidresults.Overthepastdecade,BRIcooperationhasdeliveredrealgainstoparticipatingcountries.Ithascontributedtothesounddevelopmentofeconomicglobalizationandhelpedtoresolvegloba
9、ldevelopmentchallengesandimprovetheglobalgovernancesystem.Ithasalsoopenedupanewpathforallhumanitytorealizemodernization,andensuredthattheeffortsofbuildingaglobalcommunityofsharedfuturearedeliveringrealresults.TheChinesegovernmentispublishingthiswhitepapertopresenttheachievementsoftheBRIduringthepast
10、10years.Itwillgivetheinternationalcommunityabetterunderstandingofthevalueoftheinitiative,facilitatehigh-qualitycooperationunderit,andultimatelydeliverbenefitstomorecountriesandpeoples.1.ProposedbyChinabutBelongingtotheWholeWorldTheworldtodayisgoingthroughprofoundchangeonascaleunseeninacentury.Proble
11、msandchallengescontinuetothreatentheprogressofhumancivilization.Inresponsetoachangingglobalsituationandtheexpectationsoftheinternationalcommunity,andwiththefutureandoverallinterestsofhumanityinmind,ChinaproposedtheBeltandRoadInitiative(BRI).CommittedtotheSilkRoadspirit,agreatheritageofhumancivilizat
12、ion,theBRIconnectsthepast,thepresent,andthefuture.ThisinitiativewaslaunchedbyChina,butitbelongstotheworldandbenefitsthewholeofhumanity.1. Rootedinhistory,theBRIcarriesforwardtheSilkRoadspiritAtaround140BCduringChina,sHanDynasty,ZhangQian,aroyalemissary,madeajourneytotheWestfromChang,an(present-dayXi
13、,aninShaanxiProvince),openinganoverlandroutelinkingtheEastandtheWest.Centurieslater,intheyearsoftheTang,SongandYuandynasties,silkroutesboomedbothoverlandandatsea,facilitatingtradebetweentheEastandtheWest.Intheearly15thcentury,ZhengHe,thefamousChinesenavigatoroftheMingDynasty,madesevenvoyagestotheWes
14、ternSeas,whichboostedtradealongthemaritimesilkroutes.Forthousandsofyearstheancientsilkroutesservedasmajorarteriesofinteraction,spanningthevalleysoftheNile,theTigrisandEuphrates,theIndusandGanges,andtheYellowandYangtzerivers.TheyconnectedthebirthplacesoftheEgyptian,Babylonian,IndianandChineseciviliza
15、tions,thelandsofthebelieversofBuddhism,ChristianityandIslam,andthehomesofpeoplesofdifferentnationalitiesandraces.TheseroutesincreasedconnectivityamongcountriesontheEurasiancontinent,facilitatedexchangesandmutuallearningbetweenEasternandWesterncivilizations,boostedregionaldevelopmentandprosperity,and
16、shapedtheSilkRoadspiritcharacterizedbypeaceandcooperation,opennessandinclusiveness,mutuallearningandmutualbenefit.SymbolizingcommunicationandcooperationbetweentheEastandtheWest,themillennia-oldsilkroutesdemonstratedthatbyupholdingsolidarityandmutualtrust,equalityandmutualbenefit,inclusivenessandmutuallearning,andwin-wincooperation,countriesofdifferentethnicgroups,beliefsandculturalbackgroundscouldsharepeaceandachievedevelopmenttogeth
