3、athehadindeedreachedtheNorthPole.Second,arecentexpeditionprovidessupportforPeary,sclaimthathereachedtheNorthPoleinonly37daysaftersettingoutfromEllesmereIslandoffthecoastofGreenland.SkepticsusedtoarguethatPearycouldnothavetraveledthatfast.Sinceevenmodernsnowmobilestakelongertocoverthesamedistance.How

4、everzaBritishexplorernamedTomAveryrecentlymadethesametrekinlessthan37days.InfactzAveryusedthesamekindofdogsledandthesamenumberandbreedofdogsasPearyhad.Thus,Pearyzsclaimsarenotimpossible,andheverywellmighthavebeentellingthetruth.ThirdztherearephotographstakenbyPearythatsupporthisclaimtohavereachedthe

5、NorthPole.MeasuringtheshadowsinPearyzsphotographsmakesitpossibletocalculatetheSunrspositioninthesky.TheSun,spositionestablishedfromthephotographscorrespondsexactlytotheSurfspositionasitshouldhavebeenattheNorthPoleonthatday.ThisprovidesstrongevidencethatPearyreachedtheNorthPoleandtookthephotographsth
